July 16, 2012 Teamsters Local 727 members are helping make one of Chicago’s newest entertainment venues run smoothly after the Chicago Tribune Freedom Center signed a trade show agreement with the union. The new Riverfront Theater, located at 650 W. Chicago Ave., is a 70-foot-tall, 22,000-square-foot tent that can seat up to 2,500 people. Local 727 trade show members are assisting in the set up and take down of events there, moving heavy equipment around via forklift and by hand, when necessary. “New entertainment venues like the Riverfront Theater help boost the city’s economy and create work for our members. It’s a win-win situation,” said John Coli Jr., President of Local 727. The Riverfront Theater is set to host a three-week run of “La Soiree” (July 15-Aug. 5), as well as the Elton John-themed “Rocket Man” (Aug. 8-26), the Michael Jackson-themed “Man in the Mirror” (Sept. 12-30) and the Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusements Fall Showcase (Sept. 21-23). Teamsters Local 727 represents hundreds of workers in the trade show industry throughout the Chicago area. |
